The HAMPTON ROADS MENTORING PROGRAM  was essentially created to introduce at-risk and disadvantaged young men and women to the professional world by partnering them with persons who are already working in their desired career fields.  The association between the two  parties is called a mentee and mentor relationship

The mentor acts as an advisor,  role-model and guide.  The  mentor’s responsibility is to provide a view of work  through the eyes of a professional.  The responsibility of the mentor is  to take  advantage of the mentor’s expertise and  experience.  This is done by being motivated, open minded to change and following through on  commitments.   The responsibility of the mentee is to take advantage of the mentor’s skills and expertise.
